  • After sacrificing their characters to get light Expedition arc raiders blueprints, Arc Raiders are left asking themselves a big question: "Was the sacrifice worth it?"

Arc Raiders' first Expedition Project, which is the first major voluntary character wipe in the game, has some players feeling duped. Others are happy to be able to reset their characters and go back to collecting.

arc raiders coins has been very transparent about the Expedition Project from the beginning: it is an option for raiders to restart from scratch if they feel like they have seen and done everything. It's voluntary so you can ignore it and continue doing what you are doing. But for those who do choose to participate there are rewards. There are many players who do not feel that the rewards are worth it.

Embark said that there will be "permanent unlocks of accounts," "unique cosmetics rewards," and buffs on the next expedition. The outfits players receive for completing an expedition are often a source of frustration. "Was the effort worth it?" "Was it worth it?" asks a Redditor, who appears deflated alongside an image showing the garment in question.

What was the point? From r/ArcRaiders

Redditor 'Another Redditor' shared his own reaction to these new cosmetics. He said it was "kind of bummer" to only have toggles for turning off the goggles or headgear when other outfits allow you to change the elements. This seems to be a common complaint from Arc Raiders gamers who are on the 'not worthwhile' side of this debate.

Another disgruntled Raider said, "I'm not interested in high-tier weapons. I'm fine with the stitcher, anvil, and ferro." The lack of workbenches, and the need to upgrade them again for premium attachments or higher tier utilities is more cumbersome that I anticipated. It turns out that I don't want to do all that collecting anymore, and instead just want to concentrate on PVP. Ideally you already have everything you need to craft items that will give you an edge in PVP. For the moment, I'm going to wait until I find the motivation that will make me play. I have to admit that I am less motivated to play because I put myself in a position where I was not as motivated.

"I would never do an expedition again."

The majority of comments in the Reddit thread are supportive of expeditions, but not as a necessity to reset progress.

One gamer in their thirties said, "I understand why people complain about it being not worth it. But as a gaming enthusiast in his thirties, this whole mentality is funny to me." "The Expedition reset is voluntary. It's an 'prestige mechanic' for those who've already done and seen everything.

Why are we treating video games like 401ks? You're not having fun with your gear if you're worried about losing "value" on reset.

    Some players feel liberated.

Resetting my phone feels liberating. It was a good decision. "Starting from scratch with the knowledge that I have gained now will be an entirely new experience," said one. Also, the skin looks cool. "I'm glad I got it."

The confusion seems to be centered around whether the purpose of the expeditions is the character reset, or the rewards that await on the other end. There are enough people who think the rewards don't justify the sacrifice that Embark may reconsider the rewards. Others view the expeditions simply as an optional wipe, with the possibility of nominal loot or perks as a bonus incentive. It's a case of the half-glass empty versus half-full.
